Dog Jogging

An Exercise Regime
for Obesity, On-Going Health Problems
and to relieve Pent-Up Energy

For Ultimate Dog Health and Happiness

Jogging is an exercise that is not only good for humans but also offers the same health benefits for your dog. Jogging helps maintain good muscle tone, improves circulation, and lifts spirits by increasing the “feel good” chemical levels in the body.

"At JMP Petsitting we can jog with your dog for up to 3 miles in Maidenhead, Berkshire (or surrounding towns and villages), as part of an exercise regime to help obesity, on-going health problems and pent-up energy."

ALL dogs need to be up-to-date with their immunisations please (including kennel cough). We do not jog with females who are on heat and males who have not been neutered are assessed first.

Fit dogs, (like fit humans), feel better, sleep better and are generally healthier. An extra benefit that comes with having a fit dog(s) is that they tend to have less behavioural problems. A human jogging with a dog also gives the dog the opportunity to work off excess energy. For high-energy breeds, jogging allows dog(s) to run off pent-up energy and in due course they are less destructive and calmer.

Before embarking on a jogging routine with your dog, we ask that you take your dog to your vet for a complete health check as dogs with pre-existing health problems such as heart murmurs or heartworm should avoid jogging. This check up at your vet is especially crucial if your dog is aged 5 and older or overweight.

No matter how old or heavy your dog is, once he has been given the go ahead from your vet to jog, we will start his exercise regime slowly to suit his age,  weight, health and breed. We will start with brisk walking at first to build up his endurance and to toughen up his footpads. Once your dog is used to the routine and we are happy he will cope, we will jog with him regularly.

On every jog we take water bottles with us so that your dog can have a drink and we stop for short breaks so that your dog can replenish and recharge.

We will jog early in the morning or in the evening when it is relatively cooler, rather than in the afternoon heat during the summer. Times throughout the day can be varied when the weather is cooler.

We will never compromise your dog's health whilst jogging with him and during jogging routines will watch your dog closely for any signs of discomfort. We keep a lookout for signs of overheating, excessive panting, increased salivation, red gums, increased heart rate, vomiting, diarrheoea and general weakness. If any of these symptoms appear we will slow to a walk and allow your dog time to cool down, drink enough water and regain his energy to continue training.

Your dog will enjoy jogging with us
